Digital Citizenship

Digital Technology Agreement

At St Leonards Road School we are helping our students learn to live in a digitally rich world.  We want every child to become a good digital citizen, obeying the legal rules about using digital technologies, acting with respect and care for themselves, others and property.  In return, they can expect the same respect to be shown to them.

We uphold 3 key values that are at the heart of being a good digital citizen:

PROTECT
I will protect myself by not sharing personal information and passwords online or with people.
I will protect my school’s digital equipment and keep it safe.

RESPECT
I will respect other people in the digital world by being honest, kind and fair.
I will respect myself and my friends by looking at appropriate material online, and when I see something inappropriate I will tell my teacher straight away.

OWNERSHIP
I will value other people’s work and will only access what is mine or what is shared with me.
I will also value the intellectual property of others by respecting copyrights and acknowledging sources.
I will take responsibility for using digital technologies at school for learning only.

Google Apps For Education (GAFE) Accounts
All students in Years 3-6 have a Google Apps For Education account. These are different to Google accounts in that they are managed by the school and are monitored through Hapara Teacher Dashboard by class teachers. Teachers can access every piece of information in your child’s GAFE account.  Students have their own school email address through this system. It is vital that these are not used to sign up for sites not approved by the school. Legally, children should not have a standard Google account or a social media account, e.g. Facebook, until the age of 13.

I understand that if I do not uphold these values that the possible consequences are:
  • No use of digital equipment for a specified time.
  • Suspension of my school GAFE account for a specified time.
  • Syndicate leader and Principal will be informed.
  • My parents will be contacted.
  • Removal of internet access.
  • Removal of my school GAFE account.

PHOTO AND VIDEO PERMISSION/ POSTING OF MATERIALS
Throughout the year, students will participate in school activities, events or projects in which they may be photographed or videotaped. This includes but is not limited to school sports days, interschool sports days, school portraits, student projects, field trips or special events. St Leonards Road School takes pride in the learning and progress of our students and looks to share this via our school website www.stleonards.school.nz

The following guidelines will be adhered to with the posting of materials onto the school website or associated blogs/online accounts.
  • First names only are to be attached to any student work, photos or video.
  • Material posted online will be regularly reviewed by staff members.

Photos and student work may be displayed around our school and in the school newsletter with the student’s first and last name (the school newsletter is uploaded to our school website).

Student:
My Parents/Caregivers have read and discussed this Agreement with me and I know the importance of the school values for being a good digital citizen.

I know that if I do not uphold these values I will face the consequences outlined in this Agreement.
